City of Colusa Announces Second and Final Round of Community Sake Grant Funding 

Colusa, CA, June 11, 2024– The City of Colusa is pleased to announce the recipients of the second and final round of the Community Sake Grant funding. $16,793 has been awarded to nine local non-profits and community-based organizations to support a variety of facility projects and event programming that will benefit the Colusa community. 

Mayor Pro-Tem Ryan Codorniz shares, “The City of Colusa is pleased to announce that it has awarded Community Sakes Grant to local non-profits and community-based organizations, aimed at bolstering local initiatives that promote community well-being, economic growth, and cultural enrichment. This significant grant will empower Colusa non-profits to implement a series of projects designed to enhance the quality of life for all residents.” 

The Community Sake Grant aims to foster community engagement, enhance local facilities, and support diverse programming that enriches the lives of Colusa residents. After a thorough review process, the following organizations have been selected to receive funding: 

  1. The Stagehands– $2,000 for replacement of swamp cooler by installing mini-splits into theater 
  1. Colusa Swim Team– $1,269.00 for upgrading the audio equipment at the Colusa pool to reach the Pavilion at AB Davison Park. 
  1. Virginia Yerxa Community Read– $2,000 for securing speaker for the 2025 Book in Common event held in April 
  1. Rotary Club of Colusa–$2,000 for securing a tennis pro and creation of “Introduction to Tennis” Family Day at Sankey Park 
  1. Colusa Area Little League –$1,500 for creation of new parking lot behind outfield 
  1. Colusa Lions Club– $2,000 for outreach and marketing to increase participation in 3F Ride 
  1. Colusa Founders Day– $2,000 for funding of a mural depicting Colusa’s Historic Railroad history, and coinciding with 2025 Founders Day theme. 
  1. California Stat & Regional Duck Calling Contest – $2,000.00 for seating, shade and advertising for this Free community event that welcomes visitors from across the State. 
  1. Ministerial Association of Colusa County–$2,000 for support the Colusa Certified Farmers Market voucher programs that provides residents with the abilty to use vouchers to purchase fresh foods from local distributors. 

Councilmember Denise Conrado expressed enthusiasm for the positive impact these grants will have on the community, stating, “We are thrilled to support these deserving organizations through the Community Sake Grant. Their projects and events will undoubtedly contribute to the vibrancy and well-being of Colusa. This funding reflects our commitment to fostering a strong and engaged community.” 

Councilmember Conrado adds, “The Community Sake Grant has been a fantastic addition to the support the city can offer our community partners. While this program was built out for two years of funding using ARPA funds, we [City Council and Staff] all would like to create and build out a long-term grant program that will allow us to continue this much needed and deserving support.” 

“The first cycle of the Community Sake Grant enabled Virginia Read to celebrate its 15th community read in a big way! The extra funds brought an award-winning author to Colusa, enchanting our biggest-ever crowd with his keynote speech and fostered deeper partnerships with the Arts Council, Cattlewomen and other community organizations that supported the day’s events.” stated VYCR  member Stacey Costello. “We are grateful to the City of Colusa for having this program and opportunity to support efforts made by groups offering free events and programing that are uniquely Colusa.  We are honored to be awarded for a second year and look forward to sharing this support by creating a wonderful and inclusive Virgina Yerxa Community Read Day next April.”
